The current focus of research is enhancing the performance, durability, and lowering the cost of bipolar plates. This article presents a comprehensive review focusing on the material selection and surface modification techniques employed in the fabrication of bipolar plates for PEMFCs. \Various materials used for bipolar plates are discussed, along with their properties and suitability for PEMFC applications. Additionally, surface modification methods aimed at enhancing the performance and longevity of bipolar plates are explored. The review encompasses recent advancements in surface engineering techniques, including coatings, treatments, and additives, \ to mitigate issues such as corrosion, interfacial contact resistance, and water management. Furthermore, challenges and opportunities in the field are addressed, providing insights into future research directions for optimizing bipolar plates in PEMFCs. |
